The 2012 Toyota Yaris: Great Choice for Anyone and Everyone

Toyota Yaris

The Toyota Yaris, which was first introduced in 1999 and is now on its third generation, has been a vehicle leader. However, the 2012 Toyota Yaris really takes the cake. It screams an outstanding choice in performance, comfort, fuel efficiency and safety. It allows a very crisp and contemporary look while still being sporty, due to options such as five-speed manual transmission and quicker-ratio steering.

The Toyota Yaris has features such as an estimated 38 mpg on the highway, safety features such as nine airbags, and sporty distinctive styling. These new safety features help to better protect the driver and passengers with front and rear crumple zones as well as energy-absorbing materials in the roof and doors. The list goes on and on: driver knee airbag, dual-stage front airbags, basically anything you would ever need to be protected. Toyota’s Star Safety System also comes on all models which will allow those in the car to be even better protected. A feature on this provides Smart Stop Technology which will help the driver bring the vehicle to a complete stop. These safety features go above and beyond most cars and provide such a support that isn’t found most places.

Starting at $14,115 it is available at Toyota of Greensburg!

Prius c Kicks Off with Large Sale Numbers

Toyota’s subcompact Prius c five-door hatchback, the newest member of the Prius family of hybrid vehicles, is off to a quick start since going on sale March 12.

In its first three days on the market, it sold 1,201 units, making it one Toyota’s fastest-selling vehicles and eclipsing Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf sales for the entire month of February.

“A number of factors drive the auto market, and fuel prices is one of them,” said Bob Carter, group vice president and general manager of the Toyota Division. “With 53 miles-per-gallon in the city and priced under $19,000, the timing for Prius c couldn’t be better.”

During the first half of March, the four-member Prius Family, including the new Prius c, roomy v, third-generation Liftback and new Plug-in Hybrid, accounted for sales of 9,821. Last month Prius sales totaled 20,593 and 32,593 year-to-date.

Tennessee Professor Attempts Cross-Country Drive on 10 Gallons of Gas

Cliff Ricketts, a professor of agricultural education, is attempting a drive from Savannah, GA to Long Beach, CA on less than 10 gallons of gas. And he is putting all of his hard work and goals in the trust of three Toyota vehicles – two Toyota Priuses and a 1994 Toyota Tercel.

His plan is to run the vehicles on compressed hydrogen, batteries, or E95, which is mostly ethanol with a little conventional gasoline mixed in.

“My big goal,” he said, “is to go coast to coast on sun and water” –extracting hydrogen from water in the lab with solar power. But he had to switch to E95 after availability of hydrogen tanks were slim.

He started his trip by sticking his foot in the Atlantic Ocean near Savannah and hope to reach the Pacific Ocean within a week.

Can he really make the trip on only 10 gallons of gas? The popular Toyota Camry is rated by the EPA as getting 28 mpg with a 4-cylinder engine; it would burn more than 90 gallons to go on Mr. Rickett’s trip, at a cost of about $350 in today’s market.

UPDATE: Ricketts and his eight-member support team drove three Toyota hybrid alternative-fuels vehicles approximately 2,582 miles across country, using only about 2.15 gallons of fuel — much less than his 10-gallon goal —purchased at the gas pump, according to an MTSU news release. Ricketts said he also plans a similar coast-to-coast trip in 2013, using sun and water.
